The Smart Agrifood Summit – Lisbon, an event organized by NAVES Venture Capital in partnership with INTEC and with the support of Startup Europe of the European Commission, was held on 19 March at AESE Business School in Lisbon.
Presented by the NAVES managing director, Rita Sousa, the event has had, as Keynote Speaker, Marc Vidal, specialist in Digital Transformation; in his intervention “Reworking, the Future does not wait”, Marc Vidal presented a very complete vision of what has been the digital evolution and the perspectives of technological innovation in several areas and, specifically, in Agribusiness.
Juan Francisco Delgado, president of INTEC and organizer of the Startup Europe Smart AgriFood Summit, presented the perspectives, opportunities and investment potential of the Agrifood sector in Europe.
The same idea, but in the portuguese context, was presented by Gonçalo Andrade, president of Portugal FRESH: referring to the fruit, vegetable and flower sector, Gonçalo Andrade mentioned the enormous potential of our country, given its geographical location and climatic characteristics.
César Machado, from Crédito Agrícola, mentioned the support that this institution has been giving to innovative startups in the sector and Kevin McGuinness, from Trivalor group, addressed the challenges getting involvement between startups and large sector groups.
At the Investors Panel, moderated by NAVES’ Board member Miguel Alpendre, Veronique Boudaut, from Digitize2Grow, Stewart Noakes, from Canopy Lisbon and Rui Lopes from ALXL gave a perspective on the investment of venture capital in Agribusiness, also focusing on some of the difficulties and opportunities faced by startups when attracting investment.
Agri Marketplace, BITCLIQ, FarmCloud, Sensefinity, Tesselo, and Wisecrop were the startups competing at the Elevator Pitch, all pitching innovative products and ideas in this field.
Bitcliq, Sensefinity and Wisecrop gained access to the Elevator Pitch of the Smart Agrifood Summit in June in Malaga, an event of which the Lisbon initiative was one of the “satellite events”.
The closing intervention was made by Nuno Canada, president of INIAV, IP, who reinforced the relevance of the Agrifood sector in the national economy and the importance of investment to the ongoing technological innovation.
